The Weirding World
A downloadable game
Hey, it's Marcus from Fetch Quest Games, and I'm excited to share my first one-pager RPG design! Print this out two sided, fold into a pamphlet, and get ready to play.
My design goal with this game is to create a rules light, character focused, narrative TTRPG (how many industry buzzwords can I squeeze in here?) that works well in a horror genre.
Originally I sought to create a story telling horror game that could rival Dread, but also be playable over video chat and offer a little more mechanical structure.
The central mechanic is three pools of d6 dice, each associated with a stat that represents some basic way of interacting with the world. Players have to expend dice from this pool when undertaking risky actions, as well as when suffering negative effects. This will (hopefully) create a dramatic tension as the players’ characters run low on these resources, much like a teetering tower does in Dread. This also gives players a feeling of having ‘one hand on the wheel’ when it comes to the randomness in the game, but still uses that randomness to shape the narrative.
This ruleset pulls mechanical elements via interpolation or inspiration from a number of other sources, here’s a list if you care: Dread, Cairn, Apocalypse World, Blades in the Dark, Mothership, Mutant Year Zero, Deart, Into the Odd/Bastionland, the list goes on...
A full color and print friendly file are available to print on letter sized paper, if there is interest I'll make an A4 version.
